Meet Our Team

Paula Nelms, MS, CNS
Founder, Nelms Nutrition

Paula Nelms is a board-certified nutrition specialist and functional medicine practitioner known for her advanced lab analysis and highly personalized, root-cause approach to care. She specializes in using standard lab work in a more meaningful way—applying clinical insight and targeted calculations to uncover patterns across organ systems that are often overlooked. Her work helps translate complex physiology into clear, actionable steps that support metabolic, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and inflammatory health.

In private practice since 2023, she has worked with clients across the Dallas–Fort Worth area and throughout the United States to address a wide range of health concerns. As a generalist, Paula supports individuals with diverse conditions, bringing a thorough, detail-oriented lens to each case and tailoring recommendations to each person’s unique physiology. She also has extensive training in the strategic and appropriate use of nutritional supplementation.

Paula holds a Master of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine and earned the Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) credential after completing over 1,200 hours of supervised clinical practice and passing a rigorous board examination—the highest standard for personalized nutrition therapy. Her formal training, which took more than five years to complete, reflects a deep commitment to evidence-based, individualized care.

Her passion for this work is deeply personal. In 2018, Paula experienced her own transformative weight loss and lifestyle change—an experience that ignited her desire to help others reclaim their health. She has also faced severe, life-threatening gastrointestinal dysfunction, giving her firsthand understanding of the physical and emotional challenges that often accompany chronic health issues.

Because of this, Paula brings both clinical expertise and genuine empathy to her work. She understands what it takes to change your diet, build sustainable habits, and stay consistent—even when it’s difficult.

At the core of her philosophy is a simple but powerful belief: when we give our bodies the nutrients they need, they have an incredible capacity to heal.
